Text 1_1             The First African American President

Today I will be writing about the recent election of the first African American President. As you all may know his name is Borack Obama. He has a wife named Michelle and two daughters named Malia and Natasha. He was inaugurated on January 20, 2009.

I do not know of anybody who would have thought this day would come so quickly. The segregation of schools, jobs and most public places ended only a couple decades ago. Even today, some parts of the world are still very much racially segregated. For me, seeing the highest position in our society be filled by an African American is still very shocking. I am not saying he doesn’t deserve the position, if anything, he deserves it more then anybody. Even without him making laws, fixing any problems we see today or ending any wars, he has already greatly influenced our whole nation just by being in the office. I personally am very neutral when it comes to politics, but this is more then a political issue. He gives inspiration to those who may have never had any. He is really the face of change we want to accept it or not. Some may say this is not a big deal, that he is just another guy who won an election, and that is true. However, the fact that he was able to overcome the racial prejudices that are still very much alive in our country today and win over so many people is outstanding to me.

I understand that I may seem to be biased in my opinion, but I firmly believe that having Obama as such an influential position is so mind blowing and almost hard to grasp. This whole election is hard to believe, having Hilary Clinton as a women run for office and have the chance to win is a huge step for our country. Having a women and an African American running in the same election is amazing and very empowering to normal people. As I said before, this whole election process opens up doors for many people that they may never thought would be open to them in their life time.

All in all, this year is going to, and has been, a year of change. I think that this is just the beginning for this great United States. With this new change, I think the possibilities are endless. There can only be more growth and more changes to come in the future and I think if, as a nation, we can band together and make this presidency a success.

In today’s world, seeing an African American person eating next to you at a restaurant or driving next to you in a car is not something that is uncommon. Well not to long ago, you would have never spotted an African American driving or voting or eating with white people. However we just elected the first ever African American person to govern our wonderful country. How do you feel about that?

Me personally, I couldn’t care less the color of a person skin or what race they are. The only thing that matters to me is weather or not they do a good job in managing our nation. I think as of right now, it is too early to make or pass any judgments on the kind of job he is doing so far. Obama without a doubt knows the amount of pressure and responsibility that has been put on him by the American people to get us out of the current rut we have so stupidly put ourselves in. Not to mention the added pressure of being the first black president. As such, he opens the doorways to a whole new view on American Society. He gives a voice to those who may have been silent before. All throughout his campaign, the main word you heard coming from him and his supporters mouth was “CHANGE!” that is truly what is happening hear, America has changed now and probably forever. What will be next? A woman President? I wouldn’t doubt that happening in the very near future.

It is amazing to me how such a small step, electing a new president, would make this much of an impact on the future of our country. Of course with every new president comes change, but I believe we are going to see great things out of this man. Now all you have to ask yourself is…will I embrace the change?

I think that is the fundamental question that we have to ask ourselves. Are we going to fight the leader of our country based on the color of his skin, or are we going to band together behind him and see if we can make America a better place to live. That is just a little something that has been on my mind and I thought I might share it with you.
