Sitting in my public speaking class at Del Mar College,
I overheard and interesting conversation. A girl was complaining about how there is not nearly enough parking on the campus.
That was interesting to me because I always get a parking spot. I never see a long line of cars waiting on the street because
there are no available parking spots. So I started thinking, if Del Mar has
massive amounts of parking available all over the campus, why are people complaining. Then it occurred to me that the problem
is not the amount of parking, rather it is the pure laziness of people today. People do not want to have to walk five minutes
to get to their class. They want to be able to park right next to the building where their class is being held and walk five
steps.
I do not understand the problem entirely. What is the
big deal with having to walk a little ways in order to get to your classes? To me, it is just a little extra exercise that
I can get before I start my day. If the problem really was that there was just not enough parking for all the students, then
the complaining would be valid. However, I get to school at 9:00am and there are
entire parking lots that are empty. If people really wanted to get a parking spot that is close to the building, then you
probably have to get to school earlier, which means waking up earlier which lets face it, nobody wants to do.
I think if people would get that little bit of extra
exercise and do a little less complaining, they would realize that walking is good for the soul. We have great weather and
I think it is awesome to be able to enjoy that. Yes you have to park a little farther away, but that is ok. Del Mar College
has plenty of parking and I think anyone who complains is out of their mind, not to mention blind. The only problem that we
have is pure laziness on the part of the part of the students. Maybe if the students complained less about the parking and
started realizing the pros that walking a little bit in the morning can have, then there may be a lot less complaining.

The other day in my public speaking class I over heard
an interesting conversation. A girl was complaining to another student about how there is not enough parking at Del Mar College.
As I got to thinking about the conversation I realized that the problem was not at all the parking, but the pure laziness
of people today. Del Mar college does not have a parking problem. Any college
or large center is going to have big parking lots in which some are going to have to park farther away then others. Not everyone
can get front row parking, that’s impossible. I have yet to see a car driving around aimlessly looking for a parking
spot because there are none available. What I do see is people driving around the front lots trying to catch someone leaving.
Then when they walk into class late there excuse is that there was nowhere to park but in reality they were to lazy to park
a little farther away and walk to class.
To me, I enjoy walking to class. I think it’s
a little extra exercise I can get in the day. I would rather spend a little more time walking to class, than be in my car
sitting and driving around hoping to get a good spot. Del Mar has huge parking
lots and there should be no reason why anyone should use the excuse of not being able to find parking. The real problem is
laziness on the part of the students. Maybe if they spent a little less time
on complaining about having to walk rather then enjoying the small benefits you can get from a little extra exercise in the
morning, we may have fewer overweight students.
The teachers and professors have to park in the same
parking lots as the students do and I have heard a few that complain. I think there complaints are legitimate though. They
should have separate parking then students. I have also heard a few teachers say that they get parking perfectly fine. They
can park near there classroom or near there office with no problem. I think that if the teachers can find parking no problem
then as students, most of us younger, we should have no complaints what so ever.

The other day in
my public speaking class, I overheard an interesting conversation that was going on between two students. One of the girls
was complaining to a fellow classmate about the lack of parking at Del Mar College. She was saying that she is never able
to get a good spot, and by the time she gets to school, she has to park so far away that she is usually late to class. As
I was leaving that class I made it a point to look at the campus and the parking situation. I found that there is more then
sufficient parking for all students and faculty.
It goes without
saying that not everyone can get a front row parking spot. Usually students and faculty with early classes are able to get
the close parking spots. However, I get to school at 9:00am and I always get a parking spot. Yes it is a little farther away from my class but not by much. If
I park at the very last parking space in the very last parking lot on campus, it is only about a 7 minute walk to get all
the way to the other side of the campus. That means that no matter where you park, you are within about 7 minutes of the building
you need to be in. That being said, there should be no reason why the excuse of not being able to find parking is valid.
With any large facility
or place where mass amounts of people are together during certain times, yes parking is going to be a process. But instead
of driving around the front lots waiting for someone to leave, why not go to the back lots where ample spaces are available
and walk a little ways. In my case, parking farther away and walking to class takes less times then driving around hoping
to get a close spot.
Some say that the
answer would be a big parking garage that would ensure plenty of parking. However, I think that would for one, be very unattractive
to the campus as a whole and secondly, having to drive up ramps and circle around to find a spot would consume double time.
So I think the solution is that instead of complaining about the lack of parking, try parking a little farther away and walking
to class, which in some cases, is less time consuming.
